Purbeck Review Petition
What are County proposing?
Reorganise the current system from 3-tier (First, Middle and Upper schools) to 2-tier (Primary and Secondary schools). Close all four Middle Schools.
What does the school think?
Middle Schools offer outstanding educational provision for 9 to 13 year olds
They provide specialist facilities and teachers from year 5 to year 8.
They avoid the problems associated with transfer to a large secondary school at age 11.
They provide exceptional pastoral care at a critical time in a child's development.
They offer unrivalled extra-curricular opportunities for highly motivated and engaged pupils.
They have served the pupils and parents of the Purbecks very successfully for over 30 years.
Sandford Middle School is a popular and successful school
The school continues to be oversubscribed, in spite of concerns about numbers.
The school is identified as a "good, inclusive school with some outstanding strengths" by Ofsted.
The school is recognised as "an outstanding Church of England School" by the diocese.
The school has regularly achieved results above both National and Dorset averages.
The school has an excellent reputation for its committment to extra-curricular activities.
The school enjoys good, productive links with the local community.
The school provides excellent learning opportunities for its pupils, who are happy and thriving at school. Pupils are proud to attend, parents are proud to send their children here and staff are proud to work here. Sandford has a great future ahead of it as a middle school - why on earth would anyone want to close it?
